Description: The genus Juniperus, of wide distribution, includes the species commonly called junipers (which preserve the young spiny foliage all their life) or sabines (which conserve the young spiny foliage only in the first years). The junipers are conifers or shrubs, belonging to the family of the Cupresaceae. Depending on the taxonomic point of view, there are between 50 and 67 species.
