Shinus molle
Category: Tree-lined
Origin: Originating from the state of Rio Grande do Sul in southern Brazil, Uruguay, Bolivia, Peru and Argentine mesopotamia
Description: Schinus molle is an arboreal species of evergreen leaves belonging to the family Anacardiaceae, native to southern Brazil, Uruguay, and Mesopotamia argentina; it can reach about 6 to 8 meters of height, Although in optimal conditions it reaches 25 meters.
It is a drought- and high-temperature-tolerant species, long-lived, resistant and perennial, although it does not withstand frost well. For these reasons it is cultivated all over the world. In Europe we can find it in parks, walks and avenues. In Spain it is frequently cultivated in the warmer provinces, especially in the Levante and Andalusia. It has become a serious problem in many parts of the world because of its invasive character, naturalizing in the new habitats.
In South Africa, for example, S. molle has invaded savannahs and grasslands and has expanded along ditches and irrigation channels in semi-desert environments. It is also considered invasive in much of Australia.
In Ornamental Soler we have a great variety of formats of Schinus molle or false pepper. Consult for more information.
